The company looks forward to maintaining close personal friendship with Hongge, and has arranged a friendly compensation agreement for his hard work and passion in its early days.

PODCAST LOVERS TEST DRIVE NEW WEB TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPED AT UVIC

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

Exciting new podcasting technologies developed by UVic students now being tested on the web

Victoria BC, December 01, 2007 - UVic student startup company mPulse, launched a web product on Dec. 1 that the company hopes will help bring podcasting to the mainstream. The service was released in Alpha to a group of users who signed up to preview the site early on. The launch comes only three months after the company won $15,500 in prizes at the 2007 IDC Business Plan Competition in Victoria.

The service uses podcasts to provide personalized audio content for people’s morning routines. “This is a concept I’ve been dreaming of since I was 9 years old. It’s really cool to have the technology to do it now, and to actually be using it when I get up in the morning.” says mPulse CEO, Rian Bowden. The company plans to develop the service into a personalizable structured media channel to rival traditional broadcast media.

The company plans to open up the service to more users in future releases. “We are dealing with online media, and so there are a lot of bandwidth, storage, and scalability issues that we need to consider before releasing it to the general public.” says the company’s CTO, Lewis Sobotkiewicz. mPulse is currently being tested by a handful of users, and the company plans to release the next version in January, at which time it will allow more users to start exploring the site.

After winning a $15,500 business plan competition, the business became the founding members’ full-time jobs.

$2000 IN CASH PRIZES OFFERED BY UVIC STUDENT STARTUP COMPANY

Innovative young web company approaches challenging early development issues with competition

Victoria BC, November 26, 2007 The UVic student startup company mPulse, announced a coding and design competition with $2000 in cash prizes. The company recently took home gold at the 2007 IDC Business Plan Competition, which included $15,500 in prizes, and has decided to use some of their winnings to host a competition of their own. The company hopes the competition will help attract keen coders and designers to their team. The competition will also allow them to collaborate with the community to build innovative technologies that can be incorporated into their products.

“We’re seeing a lot of bigger web companies doing these kinds of competitions lately, and we think it’s a great way to get the attention of keen developers who are interested in building cool Web 2.0 products technologies.” says the company’s CEO, Rian Bowden. mPulse came across the idea when looking for creative ways to recruit employees.

The competition will also provide a way for the three person tech company to collaborate with the community to develop cutting edge solutions to complicated usability problems on the Internet. The mPulse competition announcement comes only a week after Google announced a competition with the same kind of collaborative objectives for its new mobile device operating system.

The company may not have the deep pockets of Google, who is offering $10 million in prizes, but the mPulse team believes that when it comes to the Internet, the size or age of a company is not limiting. “You won’t find any multi-billion dollar web company that had more than a few employees ten years ago, but you’ll find ambitious young companies staying ahead of the curve and making waves internationally almost every day.” says Bowden.
