Victoria BC, March 17, 2007 – DailySplice released its beta version of a web service that aims to change the way people think of podcasts. At DailySplice, a podcast is only a piece of a user-defined tailor-made program. The service has been functional since November 2007, open only to the personal contacts of the founders until today.
The features that are available in beta include a unique playlist creator that analyzes the podcasts in a user’s list of favorites and generates a daily show of a given length that the user can consume every day in their routine. It’s like a tailor-made radio program. “We think the key to monetizing podcasts is providing a predictable and reliable platform that can be incorporated into people’s daily routines.” Says the company’s CEO Rian Bowden, who has been creating customized morning “radio shows” for himself since he was 9 years old.
The company also released its own podcast today where the hosts discuss podcasts in their own daily “splice.” “We’re really big fans of podcasts and we’re trying to bring them to the mainstream, but the first step is to help people find great shows. Our own podcast will give a quick summary of podcasts we think are cool and we hope it will help others find the show they want to subscribe to.” Says the DailySplice CTO and co-host of the podcast, Lewis Sobotkiewicz.
The service also includes a podcast community section where users can connect with friends and discuss podcasts. DailySplice also uses a unique algorithm to rank podcasts based on a number of factors which include dynamic components that make recommendations more relevant to each visitor.
DailySplice’s mission is to modernize the concept of radio by creating customized radio-style programs that are delivered daily to your computer in an iPod or mobile phone ready format. You can quickly find personalized content from a library of thousands of podcasts and then build a program template, or “Splice,” that you can listen to on demand as a part of your personal routine. The service is mostly in an invite-only test phase, but its directory and search engine are open at dailysplice.com.
