Ren to be Assistant to Vice Chair of Maple Leaf Educational Systems in Dalian, China

Victoria, BC, December 31, 2007 - mPulse co-founder Hongge Ren has accepted an amazing opportunity with Maple Leaf Educational Systems in Dalian as Assistant to Vice Chair. Maple Leaf is the first offshore school of British Columbia. Hongge will be stepping down as CFO and partner at mPulse. The company looks forward to maintaining close personal friendship with Hongge, and has arranged a friendly compensation agreement for his hard work and passion in its early days.

“Leaving mPulse just as things were getting really exciting was not an easy decision, but the other partners and I all agree the position in Dalian is one I simply can’t pass on for a number of reasons. It’s time to be home again.” says Ren. Hongge will be working with his long time sponsor and owner of Maple Leaf. “I consider myself extremely lucky for first, being sponsored to study in such a beautiful country and then meeting all these great people. I have no doubts mPulse will be a huge success and I look forward to watching from China.”

Hongge and mPulse CEO, Rian Bowden, met in the Entrepreneurship program at the University of Victoria last summer where they began working on the concept. “I knew right away that Hongge was destined for success and we clicked instantly,” says Bowden. The two later recruited Lewis Sobokiewicz, mPulse CTO, to help bring the concept to life. “It’s difficult losing such a dedicated and talented member of the team” says Sobotkiewicz.

PODCAST LOVERS TEST DRIVE NEW WEB TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPED AT UVIC

Exciting new podcasting technologies developed by UVic students now being tested on the web

Victoria BC, December 01, 2007 - UVic student startup company mPulse, launched a web product on Dec. 1 that the company hopes will help bring podcasting to the mainstream. The service was released in Alpha to a group of users who signed up to preview the site early on. The launch comes only three months after the company won $15,500 in prizes at the 2007 IDC Business Plan Competition in Victoria.

The service uses podcasts to provide personalized audio content for people’s morning routines. “This is a concept I’ve been dreaming of since I was 9 years old. It’s really cool to have the technology to do it now, and to actually be using it when I get up in the morning.” says mPulse CEO, Rian Bowden. The company plans to develop the service into a personalizable structured media channel to rival traditional broadcast media.

The company plans to open up the service to more users in future releases. “We are dealing with online media, and so there are a lot of bandwidth, storage, and scalability issues that we need to consider before releasing it to the general public.” says the company’s CTO, Lewis Sobotkiewicz. mPulse is currently being tested by a handful of users, and the company plans to release the next version in January, at which time it will allow more users to start exploring the site.
